Interior cabinet lighting should help you find what you need and make the joinery feel beautifully finished. Plan around shelves and moving parts before choosing a strip or switching method.

Plan the detail

Considered before
the lights go on.

Use the room, the joinery and the way you live as the starting point for the installation.

Light the contents, not an empty shelf

A top-mounted strip can be blocked by shelves or stored items. Vertical lighting at the front sides may reach more levels, while separate shelf runs can suit a display. Test with representative contents and check that the light stays out of your direct eyeline.

Give moving drawers a separate plan

A drawer is not a fixed cupboard. Clearances, runners and cable movement all need checking throughout the full travel. Do not let cables catch in hinges or slide mechanisms. Ask your joiner and installer to agree the detail before routing furniture or choosing a switching system.

Decide how each space will switch

Think about whether a cupboard should light when opened or on a separate control. Sensors and switches must be compatible with the strip, supply and layout. Record door type, shelf positions, recess dimensions and an accessible location for the power components.

What about RGBW? RGBW combines colour with a separate white channel. The white tone and control options depend on the product. Compare RGB and RGBW strip options and check the complete system.

Swatches are illustrative, not exact colour temperatures. Screens, surfaces and installation details change how light appears. Colour availability and suitability vary by selected product.

Useful to know

Your questions,
considered.

Is one strip at the top of a cabinet enough?

It depends on the shelves and contents. Solid shelves create shadows below, so a vertical arrangement or individual shelf runs may give a more useful result. Test with the cabinet in use.

Can the lighting come on when the door opens?

That can be designed with an appropriate switching or sensor system. Supply the door type and proposed sensor position so compatibility and reliable operation can be checked before ordering.

Can I put standard strip inside a moving drawer?

Do not treat a drawer as a normal fixed run. Any moving cable arrangement, clearance and switching needs a suitable designed solution that will not snag, strain or interfere with the runners.

What should I measure inside a cupboard?

Measure the clear height, width and depth, shelf positions and thicknesses, and any proposed channel recess. Note the door swing, hinges, cable exits and the distances back to the driver.
