Backlit-Mirror LED Strip Lighting

A mirror with a softer edge

Create a considered halo behind a mirror, with the lighting detail, wall finish and room conditions planned together.

Backlighting brings depth to a mirror and gently separates it from the wall. It is an attractive accent in a bathroom or dressing space, but the halo and the light you use to see your face need different consideration.

Mirror and room inspiration

Consider the detail.
See the wider room.

A mirror can sit within different room schemes. These concepts provide context for the surrounding lighting; they do not specify a product or confirm location suitability.

Plan the detail

Considered before
the lights go on.

Plan the lighting position, mounting and complete system around the way the space is used.

Design the halo around the wall

The gap behind the mirror, the strip setback and the wall finish shape the glow. A close, narrow recess behaves differently from a deep mirror cabinet. Check the reflection from adjacent walls and test a sample before finalising a custom mirror or joinery detail.

Keep facial lighting in the plan

Light behind a mirror does not automatically illuminate the face well. If the mirror is used for shaving, make-up or detailed grooming, assess a separate front or side lighting layer. Choose the final white tone alongside the room finishes and other fittings.

Resolve moisture and access early

In a bathroom, have a qualified installer assess the location, exposure and complete electrical system, including driver and connections. A product IP rating alone does not settle suitability. Leave a practical route for cable entry and future access without damaging the mirror or wall.

Choose the mood

One space.
Different ways to light it.

Choose the lighting effect first, then check the strip, controls and installation together. These swatches explain the choices; they are not photographs of a product’s light output.

RGB

Colour

Explore colour as a decorative layer with a compatible strip and controller. Keep practical task lighting in the scheme.

Explore colour

What about RGBW? RGBW combines colour with a separate white channel. The white tone and control options depend on the product. Compare RGB and RGBW strip options and check the complete system.

Swatches are illustrative, not exact colour temperatures. Screens, surfaces and installation details change how light appears. Colour availability and suitability vary by selected product.

Useful to know

Your questions,
considered.

Will backlighting replace lights beside the mirror?

A halo mainly lights the wall behind the mirror. For detailed grooming, assess the light reaching the face and consider a separate front or side lighting layer.

How far should the mirror stand away from the wall?

There is no single gap that works for every mirror and strip. Test the proposed depth, setback and wall finish together, then coordinate the fixing and cable detail with the mirror supplier.

Which strip can I use behind a bathroom mirror?

The installer must assess the exact location, moisture exposure and complete system. The sealed product examples below are starting points for discussion, not confirmation that any bathroom position is suitable.

Can the mirror light have its own control?

Yes, when the strip, driver and control method are specified together. Decide whether it should operate independently of the room lighting and include an accessible position for the power components.
