🪛 Setup & Installation (Colour Changing)

Connect RGB LED Strip with Solderless Connectors

In this video, we guide you through making a secure solderless connection between a 4-core cable and an RGB LED strip. Correctly aligning the wires with the LED channels is critical for proper color mixing, and we show you exactly how to map the cable colors to the strip markings.

We cover the following details:

  • Wire Mapping & Polarity: Understanding the 4-pin layout. In this configuration, the Black wire connects to the Positive (+) terminal, while the Blue, Red, and Green wires connect to their respective color channels (B, R, G).
  • Cable Insertion: How to insert the 4-core cable into the connector ports. Note: You should not strip the insulation from the wire ends.
  • Anchoring: Using bullnose pliers to crimp the first set of prongs, which anchors the wire in place before the final connection is made.
  • Crimping Technique: Applying a firm, even press with the pliers held parallel (180°) to the strip. We demonstrate how to ensure the prongs are fully depressed and smooth across the top for a reliable electrical contact.

Technical Tip: Always verify your alignment before crimping. Look at the LED strip markings (+, R, G, B) and ensure the Black wire lines up with the + mark, and the colored wires match their corresponding letters.

Tools used:

  • Solderless connectors (4-pin for RGB)
  • Bullnose pliers
  • 4-core cable
