In this video, we demonstrate how to use solderless connectors to join cable to white LED strips. This method works for both standard "dot" style LEDs and COB (Chip on Board) LED strips. For this demonstration, we are using the COB LED strip.
We cover the following details:
- Strip Preparation: Identifying the positive (+) and negative (-) markings on the LED strip and inserting the strip correctly into the connector slot.
- Cable Preparation: How to separate the 2-core cable. Note that stripping the insulation is not required for the cable end; the connector pierces the wire automatically.
- Polarity: Ensuring consistency by using cable markings (e.g., dashed line for positive, writing/plain for negative) to match the LED strip's polarity.
- Crimping: The correct technique for securing the connection using bullnose pliers. We show how to apply even, firm pressure parallel to the wire to crimp down the metal prongs on both the cable and LED sides.
Technical Tip: Do not strip the plastic insulation off the wires before inserting them into the connector holes. The metal prongs inside are designed to pierce through the insulation to make contact with the copper core.
