Frame the fireplace with light

Bring a gentle accent to the surrounding joinery or mantel detail, with the lighting kept within verified heat and clearance limits.

A fireplace already has a strong presence. LED accents can draw attention to its surroundings, but heat exposure changes the design brief. Plan the lighting with the fireplace manufacturer and qualified installer before choosing the detail.

Plan the detail

Considered before
the lights go on.

Plan the light position, mounting and complete system around the way the room is used.

Begin with the fireplace specification

Wood-burning, gas and electric appliances have different requirements. Ask for the relevant clearances, permitted materials and temperature limits around the appliance and flue. A decorative picture is not an installation guide, and a mantel that feels cool in one moment may not represent normal full operation.

Keep the light in a suitable surrounding detail

Consider adjacent shelves, alcoves or verified low-temperature joinery rather than assuming a strip can go inside an opening or directly above the fire. A profile does not make an ordinary strip heatproof. The installer must assess the strip, cable, fixings, driver and any enclosure together.

Use the glow to balance the room

Test a restrained light level from the sofa with the fireplace operating normally under appropriate supervision. Mark a serviceable cable route and power location outside unsuitable heat exposure. Separate control lets the accent complement the fireplace without dominating it.

Choose the mood

One space.
Different ways to light it.

Choose the lighting effect first, then check the strip, controls and installation together. These swatches explain the choices; they are not photographs of a product’s light output.

Cool white

A cooler white-light appearance. Consider how it works with the room’s finishes and existing lights.

CCT

Adjustable white

Change the white-light tone using compatible CCT controls. The available range depends on the selected strip.

RGB

Colour

Explore colour as a decorative layer with a compatible strip and controller. Keep practical task lighting in the scheme.

Explore colour

What about RGBW? RGBW combines colour with a separate white channel. The white tone and control options depend on the product. Compare RGB and RGBW strip options and check the complete system.

Swatches are illustrative, not exact colour temperatures. Screens, surfaces and installation details change how light appears. Colour availability and suitability vary by selected product.

Useful to know

Your questions,
considered.

Can I put ordinary LED strip inside a fireplace?

Do not assume ordinary strip is suitable inside an appliance or opening. The fireplace manufacturer and qualified installer must confirm any permitted lighting arrangement and its temperature and clearance requirements.

Is there a universal safe distance from the fire?

No single distance applies to every appliance and construction. Use the specific fireplace instructions and the lighting components’ limits, with the final detail assessed by a qualified installer.

Does an aluminium profile make LED strip heatproof?

No. A profile is not a substitute for checking ambient temperatures and appliance clearances. Every component, including cables and drivers, needs to remain within its own manufacturer’s limits.

What should I send before asking for a quote?

Provide the fireplace make and model, installation instructions, drawings or photos of the surround, proposed light position and available power route. Include the installer’s assessment of the relevant clearances and operating conditions.
