Salon LED Lighting

A salon that feels considered from every angle.

Bring a calm visual identity to reception, mirrors and product displays, while keeping the lighting needs of your services at the centre of the design.

Salon LED lighting can add a halo behind mirrors, illuminate retail shelves or give reception joinery a refined finish. These ambient and display layers serve a different purpose from treatment and task lighting. Plan each separately, particularly where accurate colour judgement or close work is part of the service.

Plan the detail

Considered before
the lights go on.

Bring the light position, mounting, location conditions and complete electrical system into one installation brief.

Separate ambience, treatment and task needs

List the activities carried out at each station, including any close work, colour assessment or treatment. A decorative mirror halo does not establish suitable illumination of the client or work area. Have the task and treatment requirements assessed, and use LED accents to complement that scheme rather than assuming one product covers every need.

Check mirrors from both sides of the chair

Test the lighting with the mirror, work chair and surrounding finishes in place. Look for visible sources, reflections and shadows from both the client and practitioner positions. For retail shelves, trial the products under the proposed light. Keep fittings and cables clear of moving chairs, storage drawers and the working area.

Plan around cleaning and daily use

Describe cleaning products, splash exposure, hot equipment and the access needed behind mirrors or shelves. Send elevations, station quantities, run lengths and power locations for a quote. Explain whether the reception, retail and treatment areas need separate controls. Agree a sample station before repeating the detail throughout the salon.

What about RGBW? RGBW combines colour with a separate white channel. The white tone and control options depend on the product. Compare RGB and RGBW strip options and check the complete system.

Swatches are illustrative, not exact colour temperatures. Screens, surfaces and installation details change how light appears. Colour availability and suitability vary by selected product.

Useful to know

Your questions,
considered.

Is backlighting a salon mirror enough for treatment work?

No such assumption should be made. Backlighting mainly creates an ambient effect around the mirror. Treatment and task illumination need their own assessment for the services being provided.

How should I choose light for hair or beauty colour assessment?

Assess the actual products, materials and tasks under a suitable sample as part of a professional lighting brief. Colour appearance and rendering both matter; a white-light label alone does not guarantee accurate judgement.

Can I use coloured light around the reception or retail area?

A separate decorative zone may suit the design. Keep colour effects from interfering with areas where treatment, close work or reliable colour assessment takes place.

What should I include in a salon lighting quote?

Send the floor plan, mirror and shelf dimensions, number of stations, services provided, control zones and cleaning or splash conditions. Identify the ambient, display, task and treatment roles separately.
