Garden steps deserve a lighting plan that starts with the steps themselves. Record the tread sizes, risers, landings and approach, then consider a protected strip position as part of the wider illumination. A decorative line can give the stair a strong visual rhythm, but the full scheme needs to be assessed for the route people actually use.

Bring the idea back to your own dimensions, mounting surface and exposure conditions.
Bring the light position, mounting, location conditions and complete electrical system into one installation brief.
Plan the view in both directions
Look at the flight from the top, the bottom and any side approach. A concealed riser or side-wall detail may create a more comfortable view than a directly exposed source. Use consistent placement where the step geometry allows, and check whether shadows conceal an edge. Ask the designer or qualified installer to assess the overall lighting; a bright line by itself is not evidence that every tread is adequately illuminated.
Measure every tread and landing
Record each step width and riser separately, especially where the flight curves or changes shape. Show the intended lit length, mounting space and cable entry on your drawing. Plan the links between steps before paving or facing materials are completed. Confirm the product’s cutting increments, cap allowance and bend direction, and keep junctions reachable without dismantling finished steps.
Keep lighting out of the load path
Mount strip only where the chosen detail protects it from shoes, impact and pooled water. Ordinary strip and mounting channels are not automatically walkover or step-nosing products. A qualified installer should specify the mounting, drainage and complete electrical protection for the site under manufacturer limits. SPLASH12 must not be submerged; allow access to inspect connections and remove debris around the installation.
Choose the mood
Choose the effect. Check the complete system.
Explore white-light and colour options, then have a qualified installer confirm the selected products and every connection for the actual location.
FIXED WHITE
Warm white
A fixed warm-white appearance for the selected lighting detail. Test it against the actual outdoor surface.
RGB and RGBW use different control arrangements. The colour product linked here is RGBW, with its own white channel; an ordinary indoor RGB strip is not an automatic substitute.
Swatches are illustrative, not product photographs or exact colour temperatures. Screens and surfaces change how light appears. Available tones and suitability vary by product. The strip’s rating does not establish the protection of the whole system.

These sealed strip options are starting points for an installer-assessed system. The strip rating alone does not establish location suitability or protect its connections, controls and power equipment.
Seamless SPLASH12 Warm White LED Strip, Top bending, 24V, 2700K
A fixed warm-white candidate for protected riser or side-wall accents within an assessed step-lighting scheme. Not a walkover fitting or a substitute for assessing tread illumination. Keep out of pooled water and foot contact.
Seamless SPLASH12 Adjustable White LED Strip, Top bending, 24V
Adjustable white for comparing the accent with the step material and surrounding garden lighting.Needs compatible CCT controls and an installer-approved mounting detail. The complete system must suit outdoor exposure.
Seamless SPLASH12 RGB + Warm White LED Strip, Top bending, 24V
A colour-capable decorative option alongside garden steps where the wider route lighting is separately assessed.Use compatible RGBW equipment. Do not rely on a colour scene for required visibility or place the strip underfoot.
These are individual strips, not a complete lighting kit or a checked bill of materials. Confirm mounting, power, controls, cables, connections and exposure limits together. SPLASH12 must remain outside water and is not a walkover or driveover lighting system. Product imagery does not identify the products used in the concepts.
Do not use ordinary strip as a load-bearing or walkover step-nosing component. If a fitting will be stepped on, specify a purpose-designed system assessed for that use. A protected riser or adjacent wall may offer another position.
Is an illuminated line enough to make a step visible?
It depends on the complete layout, surrounding light, surface contrast and viewing direction. Have the scheme assessed for the actual steps rather than relying on the decorative line alone.
Should all step strips be the same length?
Measure the real geometry first. Equal lengths may suit a straight flight, while wider landings or irregular steps need different sections. The visual consistency comes from a considered layout, not an assumed single measurement.
Can the power supply be hidden beneath the steps?
Only if that location is suitable and remains accessible. Your installer should assess moisture, drainage, ventilation and protection, and avoid placing equipment where water can collect or access requires dismantling the flight.
