Turn the terrace into an evening destination

Lighting concept

Patio lighting is most effective when it relates to the table, seating and surrounding structure. A raised edge, retaining wall or built-in bench can provide a deliberate line that makes the space feel complete after dark. Plan it with the furniture in mind so the terrace remains comfortable from the positions where you actually spend time.

Bring the light position, mounting, location conditions and complete electrical system into one installation brief.

Frame the social space

Mark the dining and lounge areas on a simple plan and decide which deserves emphasis. Test a strip position from seated height, including reflections in nearby glass doors. Consider lighting a wall or the underside of fixed seating instead of tracing every paving joint. Separate controls can help the main seating area and the wider perimeter work at different levels, subject to the chosen system’s compatibility.

Plan the edges before landscaping finishes

Measure each raised edge, bench and wall section, including corners and interruptions. Show cable distances back to the power equipment and identify where routes cross between landscaping elements. Confirm cutting increments, caps and permitted bends before preparing a recess. Keep connections reachable after paving and planting are finished, with a recorded cable route for future landscaping or furniture changes.

Design around water and wear

A qualified installer should assess splash, cleaning methods, drainage and contact from feet or furniture. Keep ordinary strip lighting off walking surfaces and out of locations where water collects. Specify the IP protection and mounting of the complete system, not just the strip, within manufacturer limits. Leave access for cleaning and inspection, and do not use SPLASH12 in submerged positions.

COLOUR

Colour with white

The linked RGBW option offers colour plus a separate white channel. It needs matching RGBW controls and a suitable complete installation.

RGB and RGBW use different control arrangements. The colour product linked here is RGBW, with its own white channel; an ordinary indoor RGB strip is not an automatic substitute.

Swatches are illustrative, not product photographs or exact colour temperatures. Screens and surfaces change how light appears. Available tones and suitability vary by product. The strip’s rating does not establish the protection of the whole system.

These are individual strips, not a complete lighting kit or a checked bill of materials. Confirm mounting, power, controls, cables, connections and exposure limits together. SPLASH12 must remain outside water and is not a walkover or driveover lighting system. Product imagery does not identify the products used in the concepts.

Useful to know

Your questions,
considered.

Can LED strip be set into paving joints?

Do not assume an ordinary strip or profile can be walked on or tolerate a water-collecting paving recess. Those locations need a purpose-designed, separately assessed system. Raised edges and fixed seating may provide alternative accent positions.

Where should patio lighting sit around a dining table?

Test the surrounding wall or seating details from the chairs first. Aim for an effect that supports the table area without placing an exposed bright line in the seated eyeline, then assess whether separate table lighting is needed.

Can I add strip lighting to an existing patio?

It may be possible where suitable mounting, protected cable routes and service access can be provided. Photographs of the edges, nearby structures and likely power position will help establish a practical route.

What should I plan before the paving is finished?

Agree each lit section, cable route, connection point and power-equipment location with the installer and landscaper. Include drainage and maintenance access so equipment is not sealed behind permanent finishes.
