Plan the detail
Considered before
the lights go on.
Bring the light position, mounting, weather exposure and complete electrical system into one installation brief.
Judge the effect from ground level
Test the proposed position from the garden, pavement and windows that look towards it. Deep soffits and shallow eaves create different viewing angles, so a detail that looks discreet up close may be prominent from a distance. Keep the light directed towards the intended surface and consider nearby bedrooms. A short trial can help establish whether the effect suits the façade before a long run is installed.
Measure a serviceable roofline
Break the roofline into separate elevations and note returns, corners, downpipes and interruptions. Mark cable entries and an accessible location for power equipment. Confirm the strip’s permitted lengths, bend direction and end-cap allowance before the mounting route is prepared. Plan safe installation and future replacement access at the outset, particularly where conservatories, extensions or planting limit access beneath the eaves.
Respect ventilation and exposure
Soffits are part of the building envelope. A qualified installer should coordinate the mounting with the roof detail, leaving ventilation and drainage features unobstructed. Assess wind-driven rain and condensation rather than assuming the eaves stay dry. Each joint, cable entry, control and power supply needs protection suited to its location, and the complete arrangement must follow manufacturer limits. Keep maintenance points accessible after the work is finished.
